Fertilite’s Tijuana clinic is located in Hospital Angeles Tijuana. U.S. CDC ART reporting and SART membership apply to U.S. clinics; they do not automatically apply here. That is a real difference, not a technicality.

How are physicians credentialed?

The medical director, Dr. Fabián Walters, is listed with Mexican board certification in obstetrics and gynecology and in reproductive endocrinology and infertility, plus training at the National Institute of Perinatology. The laboratory director, Dr. José J. Hernández Ledezma, is listed with U.S. graduate training in embryology and American Board of Bioanalysis laboratory credentials. Other team physicians are listed as reproduction and fertility specialists; ask for the specific board certifications of the doctor assigned to you.

What happens if I experience a complication?

Retrieval and transfer are medical procedures. Possible complications include bleeding, infection, ovarian hyperstimulation, anesthesia reactions, and pregnancy complications later. Because the clinic sits inside Hospital Angeles Tijuana, acute issues during a procedure have a hospital setting rather than a standalone storefront. Once you are back in the U.S., you need a local physician who will see you. Confirm before travel: who you call after hours, which hospital to use in Tijuana, and which U.S. emergency department or REI will accept you if you become ill at home.

How many times do I need to travel?

A common pattern is one trip for retrieval (often a few nights) and a second shorter trip for a frozen transfer if you freeze embryos or add PGT. Some patients do a consult on video and never visit until retrieval. Fresh transfer, if recommended and medically appropriate, can reduce trips but is not always the better clinical choice. Your calendar should be written down before stimulation starts.

Can monitoring happen in the U.S.?

Often yes, when a U.S. clinic is willing to perform ultrasounds and bloodwork and send results the same day. This is one of the main reasons Tijuana is workable from Southern California, Arizona, and Nevada. It is not automatic. Confirm the monitoring clinic, fax/email path, and who interprets results on weekends.

Can my partner remain in the U.S.?

If a fresh semen sample is required on retrieval day, the person producing it usually needs to be in Tijuana that morning unless a frozen sample was already stored. Donor sperm or a previously frozen sample changes this. A partner is not medically required to attend transfer in most cases, but many people prefer support at the border and after sedation.

Embryos created in a Fertilite Tijuana cycle are held in the clinic’s cryostorage in Tijuana, not in a U.S. laboratory, unless you later arrange a formal shipment. Ask to see how tanks are labeled, how identity is witnessed, and what backup power and alarms exist. Those are reasonable questions, not impolite ones.

How are embryos identified?

Laboratories use witnessing systems — double checks, labels, and sometimes electronic witnessing — so that sperm, eggs, and embryos remain linked to the correct patient. Ask Fertilite to describe the exact method used at retrieval, ICSI, biopsy, freeze, and transfer. Get it in writing in your consent forms.

What happens during PGT?

At blastocyst stage, embryologists biopsy trophectoderm cells. Embryos are usually vitrified. The sample is analyzed for the test you ordered (PGT-A, PGT-M, or PGT-SR), sometimes at an outside genetics laboratory. International embryo shipment is possible in some cases and is a specialized, consent-heavy process with courier, import, and receiving-lab requirements. It is not a casual extra.
